The Scribbling Sage
Yes, there is a problem with religion. The truth is that organized religion is responsible for so many of the conflicts that have plagued the world for centuries. Religious beliefs prevent us from progressing as a society. Religious beliefs deny rights to people who don’t even share the same beliefs. Religious beliefs get in the way quite a bit. Unlike many who have similar sentiments, I am not an atheist. I guess I’m essentially an agnostic, but an agnostic with Christian leanings. But I would suppose the only reason I lean in the Christian direction is because that is what I was brought up in. Christianity was programmed into me. I may have my doubts about organized religion but I could never be an atheist. To me, it just isn’t logical that all of this just happened by chance. I don’t dispute that we evolve. But I do take issue with the idea that there is not intelligent design behind all of this. That just doesn’t make sense to me. The point is that I’m not like many atheists out there who seem to be on a mission to just totally destroy the beliefs of anyone they happen to run across. I don’t have an issue with faith. I’m not out to destroy religion. But what I do take issue with is those who try to force their religious beliefs on the rest of us through legislation or other means. You can believe what you like but stop trying to force others to live by those standards when you really don’t have any proof. Have your faith, but realize that faith isn’t a set of facts. Without facts, don’t try to control my life. What you will see on this section of the site are basically pieces that have to do with how religion really tends to screw everything up. You will also see pieces having to do with how many supposedly devout religious people don’t even live the very faith they proclaim so loudly and many times violently. The truth is that the very idea of legislating morality is actually contradicted by the very tenets of Christianity that so many claim they know so well. Because Christianity is what I know the best, it will be the primary focus on this site. This does not mean that other religions aren’t as equally guilty of the same or similar sins. I have much to say on this subject so check back often for new material. This issue isn’t going away any time soon. And the truth is that religious beliefs really are the major impediment to many of the changes and much of the progress we need to make as a society. Our problems cannot be solved without facing the problem of religion head on. Atheists and Christians: Similar? I Guess I’m Just a Heathen Where’s the Proof? Christians Supporting Trump?
